The 2026 climbing schedule has been confirmed for Khao Lom Muak, one of Prachuap Khiri Khan’s most popular viewpoints, with access granted only on selected dates throughout the year.
Khao Lom Muak is located within Wing 5 of the Royal Thai Air Force base in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Rising to around 300 metres above sea level, the mountain is known for its demanding ascent and clear views across the surrounding bays, including Ao Manao, Ao Prachuap and Ao Noi. Because of its location inside an active military area, public access is tightly controlled and only permitted on specific occasions.

What climbers need to know

All climbs are supervised by military personnel and require on-site registration on the day. Advance booking is not available. Access to the registration area begins at 5:45am, with climbing permitted from 6:00am until 10:00am. Climbers must begin their descent in time to ensure everyone is off the mountain by midday.
The route covers approximately one kilometre and is divided into two main sections. The first consists of 496 steps, followed by a steeper, rope-assisted climb to the summit. The round trip typically takes between two and three hours, depending on conditions and individual fitness.
A service fee of 40 baht per person is charged. Climbers who wish to receive a certificate of completion can request one for an additional 40 baht and should notify officials in advance. Only suitable footwear such as trainers or sports shoes is allowed. Sandals and flip-flops are not permitted.
Climbing may be suspended at short notice in the event of rain, poor weather conditions or essential military operations. Visitors are advised to check for updates before travelling.
Strict rules apply within the base area. Flying drones is prohibited, photography around military facilities is not allowed, and visitors are asked to dispose of waste responsibly. Gloves are recommended for the rope section to protect hands during the ascent.
